Pepe Reina Pays His Tribute To Jamie:

The vice-captain will move joint-second in the club's list of all-time appearance holders if he faces Newcastle on Sunday, joining Emlyn Hughes and Ray Clemence on 665 games for the Reds.
Reina feels it is a fitting honour for one of Liverpool's finest servants and has been quick to join the growing list of greats to salute our No.23's feat.
"It's some achievement,
"To play 665 games for any team is unbelievable and says it all about him. Carra is the head and shoulders of Liverpool and probably one of the best players to ever play for this club.
"I hope it is just another one of many more games he plays because I am sure he won't stop and will continue to play for many years."
Ian Callaghan currently holds the record number of appearances having featured 857 times for the club.
However, Reina is refusing to rule Carragher out of the running for that accolade just yet.
"I don't know if he can catch him," he said. "Hopefully he can. He wants to and I am sure of it because he is so dedicated. He loves what he does.
"If he keeps his form then who knows. But time goes fast for everybody. He has to enjoy the fact he has played so many games and hopefully there will be more."
By his own admission, Carragher is now in the twilight of his playing career.
The 33-year-old is often touted as a future manager of Liverpool and Reina is convinced he would fit the bill perfectly.
He added: "He can be a manager, most definitely.
"He is the one who is loudest on the pitch and has more of a manager's mentality than anyone. I expect him to be a coach one day in the future."

Kenny Dalglish Impressed With Back Four

The Reds have notched nine goals in their last three league outings as they continue to close in on a European spot.
Dalglish is delighted by his side's recent for in front of goal but has also been keen to salute the role of a defence that has conceded just once during the same period.
"It is important for us that we don't lose goals at the back," said the Reds boss.
"It is important for Pepe (Reina), who has been fantastic in the last few months or so.
"He has really commanded his area; he wasn't as busy in the 5-0 win over Birmingham as he has been in other games but he was very confident and that helps us.
"For us, from the goalkeeping position through the team there are positives there for everyone."
Meanwhile, Dalglish is confident Liverpool now have a management structure in place that can help restore the club to its glory years.
The Reds boss admits he was delighted by Fenway Sports Group's decision to promote Damien Comolli to director of football and Ian Ayre to managing director last month.
The Scot feels the move will see Liverpool take a significant step forward but accepts their success in the transfer market can only be measured in the years to come.
"The structure is great now with Ian as managing director and Damien as director of football," said Dalglish.
"We said at the time they were two great appointments by the club. As for transfers, it remains to be seen. We have Andy and Luis in and they have done very well but it is only two. We need to wait a few years before we judge it but certainly they are two positive appointments."
The double swoop for Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll during the January transfer window looks to have been sound business as the duo have made an impressive start to life at Anfield.
Dalglish reckons a full pre-season will see the pair reach even greater heights but is aware Suarez's involvement may be delayed by this summer's Copa America.
He said: "Most players are better after a pre-season with their new club and that will apply to Andy and Luis next year."
He added: "Luis will be away until 24 July if Uruguay get to the final.
"It's not helpful but there's nothing we can do about it and we just have to get on with it. The competition is there and it's a huge event for the South Americans and we've got to respect that."

Seven Transfers That Seem Realistic

Author: LFC Dynamic
Article Type: Media Talk

Liverpool have been linked with many a player ahead of the summer transfer window. If each rumor is true, then Liverpool would probably have a squad consisting of about 50-60 players. So we decided to list down some of the transfers that seem more likely to take place.

1) Christian Poulsen

Christian Poulsen arrived from Juventus for an inflated transfer fee said to be around the £5m mark. The Dane has failed to impress Liverpool fans and staff likewise during the chances he was given under both the King and under Roy Hodgson. Liverpool are said to be looking to offload 'dead wood' and kopites will certainly feel Poulsen is part of the 'dead wood'. Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are on the lookout for young players or players that can make a big difference in the first team, and Poulsen doesn't seem to fit into any of those categories. The ageing midfielder has also been threatened by his manager (National Team) that he will be dropped from the squad, if he doesn't play consistently for Liverpool.

2) Paul Konchesky

The former Fulham left-back has been poor and fans will believe that he isn't Liverpool material. The Englishman is currently on loan at championship side Nottingham. Liverpool would probably have offloaded him in the January transfer window if he had not played for Fulham already. The rule that a player cannot play for more than 2 sides a season prevented Liverpool from doing so. The orthodox left back will seek for first team action in the final stages of his career and as mentioned previously, FSG are looking to offload 'dead wood' and old players who can't make a big difference to the first team.

3) Sylvain Marveuax

The French International had picked up an injury during the course of what seems to be his final season at Rennes which has prevented him from playing thus far. Reports claim that the highly sought after winger has completed the move to Anfield and that the move is to be finalized subject to a medical. Kenny Dalglish had earlier admitted that the Liverpool front line needed ammunition from the flanks and Sylvain Marveuax would certainly be able to deliver quality crosses provided he remains fit. Liverpool fans will hope he is the first of many to come.

4) Jose Enrique

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson had suggested that Jose Enrique had completed the move to Liverpool successfully, but those rumors were quickly rubbished. However it still seems as though Liverpool are going to target the highly rater full-back provided Newcastle do not ask for Jay Spearing in return as reports suggest that they might. The left-back position has caused a lot of problems for Liverpool this season, with Fabio Aurelio constantly being injured and Paul Konchesky not making the grade. Only recently has youth product Jack Robinson filled that position with some reassurance. However Liverpool will be looking for a slightly more experienced player to fill in and they may find that in the form of Jose Enrique. If Liverpool are put of by Newcastle's asking price or by their unwillingness to sell him, they might look for alternatives such as Aly Cissokho.

5) Milan Jovanovic

The Serbian who arrived from Belgian club Standard Liege last Summer has failed to live up to expectations. Though the highly rated forward had previously claimed that he would fight for his place in the Liverpool team, it seems more than likely that he, along with his fellow arrivals (Konchesky and Poulsen) will leave Liverpool this coming summer. Rumors are already circulating regarding him moving to Germany. However we'll have to wait till things are done and dusted before we can make any solid conclusions regarding his future.

6) Ezequiel Lavezzi

Liverpool have been tracking the Argentine for the past 12 months according to his agent. He seemed to have impressed Damien Comolli and Kopites like wise especially during his performance against Liverpool in the UEFA Europa League. However it may require Liverpool to compete in Europa next season to tempt him to join what would arguably be the Premier League's best strike force consisting of Luis Suarez, Andrew Carroll, Dirk Kuyt and himself (Ezequiel Lavezzi). The versatile forward who can also play on the left hand side is said to be valued around the £2om mark and Liverpool are reluctant to pay over £18m for a player who is yet to prove himself in the Premier League. That being said Liverpool are still likely to sign him.

 7) Phil Jones

The 19 year old center back has impressed Liverpool's Damien Comolli during his performances for his club (Blackburn Rovers). Phil Jones is probably the least likely in this list to join Liverpool as the asking price is said to be over inflated. Liverpool, however will be looking to beef up their defense which consists of 2 veterans and 1 injury prone Dane in the form of Jami Carragher, Daniel Agger, and Sotirios Kygriakos.  French International, Mamadou Sakho and Bolton defender Gary Cahill are also said to be on Liverpool's wishlist should they not pull the signing of Phil Jones through.

Please let us know what you make of this, if you find any other player likely to join Liverpool, please inform us along with the reason on why you think he will join L4.

"Too Soon To Judge Liverpool's Transfer Policy" Says King Kenny

Source: The Guardian
Article Type: News

Kenny Dalglish has hailed the managerial structure installed at Liverpool by Fenway Sports Group but cautioned it will take years before its work in the transfer market can be judged a success.
FSG, Liverpool's owners, promoted Damien Comolli to director of football and Ian Ayre to managing director last month and Dalglish is working closely with the Frenchman to identify targets for this summer despite not being appointed permanent manager as yet. Comolli and Ayre were at Ewood Park on Monday night to monitor Blackburn Rovers' coveted central defender Phil Jones against Manchester City and they presided over the signings of Andy Carroll and Luis Suárez in January, although the Uruguay striker had been on Liverpool's agenda since the final year of Rafael Benítez's reign.
Dalglish believes whoever is in charge at Liverpool can operate alongside a director of football but, with the club having been held back by numerous transfer mistakes in recent years, he also says it will take more than the Suárez and Carroll deals to prove the merits of the partnership on transfers.
"The structure is great now with Ian as managing director and Damien as director of football," the Liverpool manager said. "We said at the time they were two great appointments by the club. As for transfers, it remains to be seen. We have Andy and Luis in and they have done very well but it is only two. We need to wait a few years before we judge it but certainly they are two positive appointments."
Dalglish believes Liverpool will witness further improvement in Suárez and Carroll next season. "Most players are better after a pre-season with their new club and that will apply to Andy and Luis next year," he said. Those plans are in jeopardy due to international commitments, however, with Stuart Pearce determined to take Carroll to the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark in June and Suárez heading for the Copa América in Argentina in July.
"Luis will be away until 24 July if Uruguay get to the final," he said. "It's not helpful but there's nothing we can do about it and we just have to get on with it. The competition is there and it's a huge event for the South Americans and we've got to respect that."
Carroll trained on Friday as he attempts to overcome a knee injury in time to face his former club Newcastle United at Anfield on Sunday, while Liverpool have denied reports in Belgium of a £20m bid for the young Anderlecht striker Romelu Lukaku, a Chelsea target.
Jamie Carragher will make the 665th appearance of his 14-year Liverpool career against Newcastle, a landmark that puts him joint second in the club's all-time list alongside Emlyn Hughes and Ray Clemence, behind Ian Callaghan. Dalglish said: "He's been a real compliment to this football club. His record speaks for itself. Talent is a good starting point, starting in the first team at 18 is another good starting point and not picking up too many injuries helps, but the most important thing is his ability and his desire and commitment to this football club."

10 Facts About Unofficial Signing

Source: Talksport
Article Type: Media Talk

1) Sylvain Marveaux was born in Vannes on April 15, 1986 and is the younger brother of Montpellier midfielder Joris Marveaux.

2) With both brothers competing in Ligue 1, they have met often on the field with Joris finishing the victor most of the time. The older Marveaux’s side beat Rennes 3-1 in February 2010 and scored twice.

3) The left winger, who can also play as an attacking midfielder and has been likened to Florent Malouda, graduated from the highly-rated Rennes youth academy where he counts Yoann Gourcuff as a former youth team-mate.

4) As well as playing with Gourcuff, he formed a good partnership at Rennes with Sunderland and Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan and set up many of his 14 goals.

5) On top of possessing all the attributes a highly sought after midfielder should do, he can also hit tremendous free-kicks...

6) He was forced to miss most of the 2008/09 season when he needed surgery on a torn hamstring and, having had a great campaign the following year, his injury curse has struck again. The midfielder has not played for his club since a 2-1 home win over Brest in November where he injured his groin. This same problem forced him to miss the start of the season too.

7) Despite the injury scares, his talents have still been recognised throughout Europe with Chelsea, Man United and West Ham – who made an offer last June – keeping an eye on him as well as France big-boys Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille.

8) Although it looked like Liverpool would be the ones to pounce when he was a guest in the Anfield director’s box in December, recent reports have suggested that the club have agreed a pre-contract to sign him at the end of the season when they will pick him up for nothing.

9) Kenny Dalglish will no doubt see his capture as someone to help provide strike duo Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez with the right service. It's also likely to put more pressure on Joe Cole, who has been disappointing since a high-profile free transfer from Chelsea in the summer.

10) Marveaux has scored four times in 11 matches for the France U-21s but has yet to make his full debut. Hint hint, Monsieur Blanc...

Pepe Reina Eyes 4 Game Winning Streak

The Reds head into the final straight of the 2010-11 campaign three points adrift of fifth-placed Tottenham having played a game more.
However, the Spaniard is adamant Kenny Dalglish's side can still leapfrog the Londoners and reckons this weekend could be a pivotal moment in the race for a Europa League spot.
Reina told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We have to try to win all of our games and after we will see.
"I believe if we win them all we will be in the fifth position and that is probably the closest and most important target."
He added: "We won't win every game 5-0 like we did against Birmingham last week, but if we play with the same mentality and approach it in the same way, we have more chance of winning than losing.
"We have to take it one game at a time and the most important one is Newcastle because that is next. Tottenham have Chelsea away so there is a possibility we can pass them and take the fifth position this weekend. We have to make sure that we don't drop points at home because we also have Tottenham to come here.
"We also have two difficult away games at Fulham and Villa, so as I said, it's better to go game by game and make sure we don't drop points.
"Our home form has been key and it is important if you want to be up there. Just look at Man United's results at home. They say everything about why they are up there so we have to be like that if we want to challenge at the top."
Reina concedes that he did not expect Liverpool to challenge for Europe prior to Kenny Dalglish's January arrival.
The Reds have since put together a sequence of results that has seen them emerge as one of the in-form teams in the second half of the season and the stopper is confident the future is bright for everyone involved at Anfield.
"I definitely could not see (Europe) it five or six months ago. But we kept fighting and turned the situation around. Now we need to do more to be even higher.
"It is down to all of us. Kenny Dalglish, Steve Clarke, Sammy Lee and all the staff have done a great job from January onwards.
"When the results are better and the team is winning people are happier and the mood in the dressing room is always better.
"Melwood is a happy place. The dressing room is quite young, loud and funny. When we have to work we are the first to do it and when it is time to joke, we like to joke and have fun too."
He continued: "I think we want to grow and we have to grow. The owners and the people in command of the 'boat' see we have to bring in some players. We have to be right in those transfers and the players that we already have can be important for the new project. I'm very optimistic and I believe we are going to be better.
"You can see that the fans are much more optimistic now. The team is playing better and that is easier for them. We have always felt their support though because they are so loyal. It is always great to have this kind of support."

The Reds wiped out Birmingham City in a 5-0 win last weekend with Carroll absent.
Pardew preferred to focus on his own team's strengths but he reckons that if he was in Dalglish's position he would have a tough decision on his hands whether to play him or not.
When asked over Carroll, Pardew said: "You would expect Andy to start, if fit.
"But they did very, very well without him in the win against Birmingham.
"Kenny's got a bit of a problem.
"I watched the DVD of the Birmingham game, and they were terrific without him."
Suffocating the supply line to the England international will be United's priority in order to starve Carroll of chances in front of goal.
Pardew added: "We know him well, obviously. delivery into the box is right, he's undefendable.
"That's the other part of the game you need to address.
"The deliveries to him are something we'll have to stop.
"Hopefully, we'll have him tied down if he plays.
"If he doesn't play, then the scenario's different altogether - they have to play a different way."

Agent Cools Rumors Regarding Diego Perotti

Reports in Spain last week claimed Seville are ready to cash in on their £12million-rated player after they lined up his replacement in the form of German international Piotr Trochowski.
But Perotti's agent Alvaro Torres was quoted on radio station Onda Cero claiming: "There is nothing to report.  The only thing we know is that some important clubs want to talk to Seville about their players and Diego will be one of them.
"But Seville are in charge of the situation and no proposal has come directly to us nor have any clubs spoken to us."
Liverpool reportedly face competition for the highly-rated 22-year-old from Everton and Newcastle United.

Barcelona Starlet Set To Join Anfield

The youngster who performed spectacularly in the youth ranks of Barcelona, has failed to live up to his reputation thus far during his chances in the first team.

The 20-year-old has often struggled to break into Barca's star-studded starting line-up and has been utilised mainly from the bench in the last four seasons.

But sources in Spain have suggested that Bojan will look to move on in the summer in a bid to secure more regular first-team football.

The striker has started just seven La Liga games all season, and only 40 since his breakthrough into the first team in 2007.

Now Barcelona are reportedly ready to let him leave and Arsenal and Liverpool are among a host of clubs who are keen on making a bid for him in the summer.

Arsenal's Left Back Being Targeted By Liverpool

Source: Givemefootball
Article Type: Transfer Rumor

Liverpool have long had issues with their left back position, and have been linked with many players over the season. But with Clichy's contract at Arsenal still not renewed, Dalglish and Comolli both reportedly believe they can take the star in the summer transfer period.
Clichy recently pledged his allegiance to Arsenal, telling reporters: "I have to say that my present and my future is with Arsenal."
But the Frenchman also alluded that money and the ability to win titles may sway him to another club.
"I am leaving talks over my contract with my agent so that I can focus on my football.
"I know that there are rumours about me going elsewhere but I have nothing to say about that.
"I have always wanted to be at a club where I am content. Money is important but it is not a decisive factor. All I want is to win a title - that's my ultimate ambition."
With Arsenal looking down the barrel of a sixth season without any trophies, Liverpool might be able to give Clichy the accolades he's seeking.
Liverpool are currently boasting their best form this season, and with Dalglish signing Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in the January period, Liverpool are looking the on form side to be a part of.
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is still relenting from spending big on new players, and while Arsenal currently sit at third on the Barclays Premier League table, they don't appear to have the fire power to challenge big spending teams like Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Marveaux Deal Is Sealed Reports Talksport

Article Type: Transfer Rumor

The free transfer for the Rennes midfielder was agreed in April, with the former France Under-21 coming to the end of his contract, but the details of his Merseyside contract are now being revealed by French newspaper L'Sport.
The respected French paper reports that the attacking midfielder, previously of interest to Manchester United and Chelsea before his injury, has agreed a four-year deal with a possible fifth year based on appearances and performance.
The left-footed winger has played just 10 league games this season, having picking up a serious groin injury in November. but still achieved one goal and two assists.
And that form is believed to have attracted the attention of Liverpool's French director of football Damien Comolli, who plays a pivotal role in the club's European recruitment policy.

Chris Hughton on Andy Carrol's Price Tag

Source: Goal.com
Article Type: Media Talk

Carrol moved to Anfield during the January transfer window in a last gasp attempt made by Liverpool to replace Fernando Torres. As a result the Reds splashed £35m on the youngster who has had just 1 successful Premier League season, but his ex-boss (Chris Hughton) he was worth every penny, provided he continues his purple patch on the pitch.

"The fee was always going to be about the future. With the money that they got for [Fernando] Torres and what they paid out for Carroll and [Luis] Suarez, at the moment it looks like good business. Only time will tell, regarding the actual figure that they paid for him,

"If Andy continues to make really good progress for Liverpool and England over the next few years then everybody will look at that fee and say it was worth every penny of it, because we now have a player who is possibly worth more. It is a big fee, and I think most people at the time felt that, but these are the market values these days."

Hughton was in charge of Newcastle when they won promotion in 2010 and Carroll was a big part of that side, with his former manager adding that the striker benefited from Newcastle getting relegated a year previously.

"First and foremost, he is definitely one player who benefited from the club being relegated. We had lost Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins," he added.

"There is perhaps the train of thought that says if we had stayed in the Premier League we probably would have looked to replace those players with other centre-forwards. The fact that we didn't gave Andy the opportunity to play.

"I think the fact that he got to play on that regular a basis no doubt fast-tracked the qualities that he is now showing.

"He showed that by the end of that Championship season, he was a much better player than when he started it."

Dalglish: Mixed Reception Will Be a Compliment

Source: Liverpoolfc.tv
Article Type: News

The Reds; no.9 could go head-to-head with his former club for the first time since his January move on Sunday afternoon. That is if he recovers from the knee injury that kept him out of last week's 5-0 rout of Birmingham City.
Dalglish admits the 22-year-old is aware that the travelling support may not greet him with open arms but is confident the England frontman will be able to handle the situation.
"I think the boy is expecting something," said Dalglish.
"The fans will do whatever they want. It will not take away from what he has done for their club and it won't take away what the club meant to Andy.
"It is a compliment, really, in a strange way, if you do get the abuse because it means you must have been important to them.
"I don't know what they will do on Sunday but if, as a player, you don't get abuse off your old supporters then they can't have been too disappointed that you left."
Despite seeing his Liverpool debut delayed by a thigh injury, Carroll has made a promising start to life at Anfield.
His brace in the recent 3-0 demolishing of Manchester City gave supporters a glimpse of the quality he can offer in the years ahead - and Dalglish has been delighted by his impact, both on and off the pitch.
"There has been nothing that Andy has done [on the pitch] that has surprised us, but what you don't know to the same extent is the personality," said Dalglish.
"If there is one thing that has pleasantly surprised us it is the boy's personality.
"He is a real down-to-earth boy who sometimes doesn't realise he is a footballer but that is because he is naive and has his feet firmly fixed on the ground.
"We have been delighted with the way he has gone about his rehabilitation and his performances.
"If next season is to be his best, then we have got a lot to look forward to! But I wouldn't be writing off this season just yet.
"We have been delighted with the way he has gone about his rehabilitation, and the way he has played the games. But unfortunately after scoring the two goals, he picked up an injury against Arsenal.
"We will need to see if he can play Sunday, but if he is not fit Sunday he should be fit to play the next game (against Fulham on May 2). So he has a bit of mileage to do this season before we start thinking about next year."
Dalglish's acquisition of Carroll isn't the first time he has swooped for an up-and-coming Geordie striker.
The Scot signed a young Alan Shearer during his time at Blackburn Rovers but feels that, aside from the obvious, the duo arrived under very different circumstances.
"It is a natural comparison, I guess," said Dalglish, "They are two Geordies, two number 9s and both signed by myself. But for me they are totally different. Different characters and different footballers.
"(Shearer signing for Blackburn) was under totally different circumstances. Alan came into a club that was trying to develop itself - Blackburn had only just won promotion - whereas this club is already hugely well established. So in that sense I don't think you can compare the two signings.
"Yes, they are both from Newcastle, but Andy coming to Liverpool doesn't really bear comparison with Shearer signing for Blackburn.
"The only comparison I see is the desire to be successful, but that is not just exclusive to Andy and Alan. I hope every player the club brings in will have that."

Kenny Hails Carra

The 33-year-old will play his 665thgame in Liverpool colours against Newcastle on Sunday - putting him level second with Emlyn Hughes and Ray Clemence in the club's all-time appearance table.
He will then set about catching Ian Callaghan on 857.
And Dalglish told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Carra has been a fantastic servant to this football club. I don't know how far short he is from Cally's record - I think he's got a wee while to go before he reaches that, but he's been great.
"He's filled in loyally and comfortably in many positions for the football club and he's someone who has been very pleased to be associated with Liverpool - and we're pleased to be associated with him.
"He's been a real compliment to this football club.
"Talent is a good starting point, starting in the first team at 18 is another good starting point and not picking up too many injuries helps, but the most important thing is his ability and his desire and commitment to this football club.
"His record speaks for itself."
Carragher signed his first professional contract at Anfield in October 1996. Three months later he was rewarded with a debut, replacing Rob Jones in the 75thminute of a League Cup defeat at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium.
He then scored on his full debut against Aston Villa - but that wasn't his first in front of the Kop.
Supporters may not know that as well as playing across the defence and in midfield for Liverpool, Carragher operated as a striker when he was a boy. And the No.23 will proudly tell you about the 25-yard screamer he once scored for Bootle Boys at the Kop end.
A couple of decades later he has barely added to his goals tally, with just five professional strikes to his name.
But with more appearances than any player in Liverpool's recent history - not forgetting 38 England caps - Carragher is an ideal role model for youngsters such as Jack Robinson, John Flanagan and others hoping to make the grade at Anfield.
"It wouldn't be bad for them to model themselves on Jamie or Steven (Gerrard)," said the boss.
"There are a lot of things a local lad trying to come through has to endure and the ones who might experience that in the future could do a lot worse than having a word with either of them because they know what lies ahead.
"Not just talk to them about coming through, but also about football in general."
Liverpool's top 10 appearance makers:
1. Ian Callaghan 857
2. Ray Clemence 665
3. Emlyn Hughes 665
4. Jamie Carragher 664
5. Ian Rush 660
6. Phil Neal 650
7. Tommy Smith 638
