Liverpool 5 Birmingham 0 Review

Maxi Rodriguez scored a hat-trick on his first start since 17th March for Liverpool. It was a match that Liverpool went on to win comfortably. Liverpool's first goal arrived on the 7th minute. Ben Foster fumbled a long range effort from Jay Spearing and the hat-trick hero was on his toes to net from close range.

The goal followed a brief period where Liverpool seemed to have been taking a little break. It wouldn't last for long though as Dirk Kuyt netted his 11th of the season. An aerial ball was played to Suarez which saw him through on goal, however the Uruguayan shot straight to the keeper who parried the ball. The chance seemed to have slipped, but the Dirk Kuyt had anticipated the situation well and took two bites at the cherry to score.

Whilst trying to stop Liverpool from scoring their second, Birmingham goalkeeper Ben Foster collided with skipper Carr. The Englishman injured himself in the process and was replaced by Colin Doyle who eventually found out that he had to pick the ball out of the net 3 times himself.

Birmingham came back well after the half time interval. Pepe Reina was tested almost immediately after the second half started as he parried a Larsson shot.

Liverpool's third goal and Maxi Rodriguez's second arrived on the 66th minute. Martin Skrtel played a telling pass to Luis Suarez who was just about onside. His cross found Maxi Rodriguez who side footed home. Maxi Rodriguez who thank Dirk Kuyt after he made an intelligent run to divert Birmingham center back away from the Argentine.

The Argentine was able to get his hat-trick in the 73rd minute. His long range effort was parried and Raul Meireles turned the ball back into the danger area to help Maxi Rodriguez complete his treble.

Meireles was later replaced by Joe Cole who came on to score his second goal for Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League. It couldn't get better for Liverpool fans could it?

Oh yes it could, currently 5th placed Tottenham slipped as they drew 2-2 to West Brom. This has narrowed down the difference in points between the 2 teams to just 3 points with Spurs having 1 game in hand. Liverpool will hope they can beat Spurs when they meet later this season.
