Inter Milan youngster Philippe Coutinho is set to be sent out on loan next season, after falling down the pecking order at San Siro, and the young Brazilian is now being linked with a temporary move to Liverpool.
The 18 year-old Brazilian started the season as a star in the making, with glorious potential demonstrated against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur (before Gareth Bale nearly inspired a comeback from 4-0 down).
He also earned a first cap for his country in October.
However, since the departure of Rafa Benitez as Internazionale manager, Coutinho’s season has stalled somewhat with Leonardo as his coach.
This is mostly due to a two month injury lay off between November and January, but Sky Italia now report that Leonardo will loan him out next season.
Still just a teenager, Inter hope a temporary move will help his development, as Davide Santon has managed to get his career back on track at Cesena.
Coutinho intriguingly could be sent abroad, as club sources believe the physicality of the Premier League could accelerate his growth as a player – much as it worked for Cristiano Ronaldo.
With Benitez still holding the ear of many insiders at Anfield, his recommendation of a player hailed as the future of Inter just a few months ago will certainly be listened to.
Coutinho is a quick, tricky dribbler with an eye for the killer pass and intelligent movement.
The Brazil youngster is capable of playing in the hole behind strikers, or on either flank.
He would also not cost much in wages, but will Damien Comolli recommendKenny Dalglish take the plunge?
