Dalglish believes that Joe Cole can still have a huge impact at Anfield.
The 29 year old Englishman signed on a free transfer with the contract  said to be worth £90,000 a week.

The highly rated attacker was hoping to reignite his career whilst arriving at Anfield. Fans, staff and players alike were all excited by the prospect of playing along with him. He however has not lived up to his reputation thus far, having scored just 3 times in all competitions for Liverpool this season. However Dalglish believes the goal that he scored against Birmingham could be a turning point during his Anfield stay.

"It wasn't a little contribution," Dalglish said. "That goal could be massive for Joe because he has not had as many opportunities as he would have liked because he has been injured and suspended. It is a great credit to him the way he has been training, as it is with Maxi [RodrĂguez] and the others.

"If any player I ask to go on does their best, then that is all I can ask for. But they give themselves the best opportunity because, in training, they are committed and determined. They are pleased for the lads who are playing but obviously they want to play themselves."

"He is fantastic in training. He plays everything right and doesn't have a problem. Everybody has to work hard to get anything and Joe is no different from anybody else."

Liverpool are yet to decide whether to deploy their £35M striker against his boyhood club. If Liverpool decide that Carroll needs more time to recover, Joe Cole could very well be in Liverpool's starting line-up.

"We will take an educated opinion on whether he (Andy Carroll) is fit or not," Dalglish said. "If he is not fit then it will be a disappointment for Andy but he's here for five years and I'm sure he'll play Newcastle more than just this Sunday coming up. His future comes long before a game against Newcastle."
